Under the guidance of an inspiring PhD-qualified Sales Leader and working with brilliant colleagues, can you apply your engineering philosophies and principles to identify and influence multiple stakeholders in securing new project work in bespoke automation?
Our client is a leader in the design and installation of high-end bespoke automated solutions - from end-of-line packaging machinery to case packers, palletisers, de-palletisers, case and tray handling machinery, robotic integration and conveying systems.
Reporting to a brilliant Sales Manager, they are now looking to add strength, depth and unique strategy to their Solutions/Sales team. With a strong portfolio of clients in the food, beverage, FMCG, personal care, pharmaceutical, meat, and fresh produce industries and strong inbound enquiries, the new appointee will enjoy the autonomy that the company promotes and both control and strong influence over solutions sold owning the entire sales process from initial lead generation through to solution design, quoting, and project handover. Specifically, you will:
Technical Solution Design
· Visit client sites to assess automation opportunities.
· Develop high-level layout concepts for production line solutions using CAD.
· Work closely within Engineering Applications and Sales teams.
· Estimate project costs based on past builds and supplier input.
· Build technical credibility with engineering focused decision makers.
· Work closely with client decision-makers to iterate toward their best-fit solution.
· Interface with Engineering, Project Management, Manufacturing and Service teams.
Customer Engagement
· Qualify marketing leads arising from the region.
· Generate sales leads from past customers, select national accounts and direct reach outs.
· Build trust with financial focused decision makers.
· Calculate expected ROI/payback based on cost savings, throughput gains, and reliability lifts.
· Present tailored proposals and negotiate commercial terms.
· Secure orders and manage client handover to operations teams.
· Maintain CRM data and support reporting through MS Dynamics.
· Develop and enhance ongoing relationships with existing clients.
· Proactively address concerns and suggest value-adding improvements.
· Act as a consultative partner across the clients automation journey.
About You
You're a Solutions Design Engineer or Automation Engineer with a talent for client engagement or a Sales Engineer skilled in conceptualising and costing automation solutions. You're equally comfortable in the office and on the factory floor-discussing automation ROI with decision-makers, drafting high-level CAD layouts and collaborating with operations.
Essential
- Background in Automation Engineering (either special purpose machinery, case packers, palletisers, material handling systems, manufacturing lines, automated warehouses, integrated robot cells or similar)
- Ability to design high-level layouts and estimate costs/payback.
- Strong interpersonal skills with comfort in both sales and technical conversations.
- Proficiency in CAD or excellent technical drawing and strong IT literacy.
- Driving Licence
Highly regarded (not essential)
- Experience in B2B industrial or production line automation sales.
- Familiarity with project handover and delivery processes.
- Degree qualifications in relevant Engineering, Line Control, Robotics or Quality Assurance, Business, Marketing or Communications
